Frequently Asked Questions

Below you’ll find answers to the questions I get asked the most when someone is considering seeing a Nutritional Therapist.

  • Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care.
  • Nutritional Therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine that is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and wellbeing.
  • As a registered Nutritional Therapist I will:
    • Use a range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to your symptoms and health concerns; this approach allows me to work with you to address nutritional balance and help support your body towards maintaining health
    • Treat every one of my clients as a unique individual and will recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach
    • Never recommend nutritional therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client presenting with ‘red flag’ signs or symptoms to their medical professional.  I can work alongside a medical professional and will communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in a client’s care to explain any nutritional therapy programme that has been provided
  • The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) is the UK regulator for complementary health practitioners, it holds a register accredited by the Professional Authority (PSA) that includes a range of natural therapies; Nutritional Therapy being one.
  • Anyone can potentially claim to be a complementary health practitioner, however if you choose someone registered with CNHC you are given assurances that they:
    • Have undertaken all of the necessary training to understand the theory and practise of nutritional therapy
    • Commit to completing annual continuing professional development (CPD) in order to keep up to speed on the latest research and emerging science
    • Adhere to UK-wide government standards for safe and competent practise
    • Hold professional indemnity insurance
    • Agree to comply with the CNHC code of Conduct, Ethics and Performance
  • CNHC registration is also accepted by some health cash plans and insurers for reimbursement of treatment costs

There are many reasons why someone would consider seeing a Nutritional Therapist.  Some common health complaints that I regularly see in clinics include:

  • Female hormone imbalances affecting menstrual cycles, libido, peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms.
  • Digestive complaints such as bloating, discomfort, food allergies and intolerances, constipation or loose stools.
  • Low energy, fatigue and low mood
  • Anxiety and depression, poor concentration and memory, feeling foggy headed
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Feeling stressed, tired and wired or burnt out
  • Suffering from insomnia or poor sleep
  • Chronic joint pain

A lot of the time I hear from people are fed up with feeling under par, frustrated with the conflicting information that is out in the media, and want to work with someone that has the skills and qualifications to guide them and show them how to make positive changes to their health through nutrition.

Yes, I offer a range of other services ranging between £47 – £697 examples of this are:

  • Masterclasses
  • Strategy sessions
  • Group programmes

Please contact me for further details

  • This depends on a range of different factors, such as:
    • What your goal is
    • The severity of your symptoms
    • How long you have been diagnosed with an illness
    • How long you have been taking medication
    • Your diet and your lifestyle (e.g. exposure to stress and quality of sleep)
  • Your success largely depends on you and how much you can commit to reaching your goals, by adopting the recommended diet and lifestyle changes; you get out what you put in.
  • It is important to remember that we are all different and all have different personal circumstances, social and cultural beliefs to take into account.  I will listen to what you can achieve and will adapt your plan accordingly
  • It is important to remember that the symptoms you want to address probably didn’t happen overnight, so you need to allow your body time to address those imbalances and reinstate wellness, this may take many weeks and is rarely a linear process
  • That depends on your requirements, I offer strategy sessions and testing analysis sessions which are single appointments, and are aimed at women who want to address a single symptom or wish to have their test results analysed by a trained professional
  • From my years of experience, if you have a number of symptoms to address, you will not achieve your goals through one single appointment and for that reason I offer a 12-week 1:1 programme,  designed to help you reach your goals through a series of incremental achievable steps, in a way that you can sustain for the long-term
  • Our time together, the therapeutic relationship and the plans evolve over time to suit you and your lifestyle
  • This is a journey and an opportunity to learn new health habits, which don’t always happen overnight
  • Over a 12-week 1:1 programme your consultations will be 1 week apart
  • As a Nutritional Therapists I am not qualified to diagnose medical conditions, I provide a complementary therapy.
  • I am however trained to recognise symptoms that may indicate medical conditions, and this information is captured during your consultation with me.  In these instances, I will refer any symptoms that I consider to require further investigation back to your GP (with your consent); it would be the responsibility of your GP to decide on the best course of action and provide a formal diagnosis
  • I am also able to recommend a variety of functional tests that identify and evidence imbalances in the body and that may be contributing to your symptoms.  These can be used to benchmark your current health, to decide on the most appropriate course of action, and they can also be passed on to your GP as supporting information
  • Functional tests are blood, saliva, urine or stool tests that are ordered from reputable private laboratories.  Most functional tests are home sample kits (except for blood) that you can complete in the comfort of your own home and send back to the laboratory directly.  They will process the samples and send the results to me for analysis and to interpret into your nutritional therapy plan.
  • I will recommend functional testing where I feel it is going to add the most value.  Functional tests allow us to benchmark your current health status and allows me to produce a more targeted plan that is based on clear evidence of how your body is functioning.  The details of the tests and reasons for recommending them will always be discussed during your consultation.
  • The cost of supplements are not included in the cost of the programme
  • You will be given recommendations based on your specific requirements, and you will be able to order these, with a practitioner discount from www.naturaldispensary.co.uk or www.amritanutrition.co.uk
  • Nutritional Therapy is a complementary therapy designed to work alongside existing treatments and is not a substitute for medical advice. It is important therefore to have a full understanding of any medications that you are taking, and these will be checked for any potential interactions to food and supplement recommendations.
  • Any opportunity to reduce or even stop taking medications must be done in consultation with, and at the express consent of your GP or the Consultant that prescribed your medication.
  • Many people have an aspiration to come off medications, and this can depend largely on the condition and its severity
  • It is always advised that you discuss your Nutritional Therapy plans with your GP (or Consultant) so that they can support your health goals
  • I work from my home in Shrewsbury, Shropshire – however please be aware for the present time I am not currently carrying out any face to face consultations
  • Instead I now solely offer consultations via Zoom.  These work very well and mean that you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your own home!  I currently see clients from all across the UK
  • Please note that I am required to see you via a video link.
  • Many of my clients like to have ongoing support from me via routine check ins.  For this reason I offer 12-week maintenance packages.
  • The appointments can be set at a frequency that we both agree on and will provide you with a degree of accountability and support to help you stay on track with your wellness goals.
  • These appointments act as great support and accountability tools for clients who feel they need extra support when they have finished working with me in a 1:1 capacity
  • You also get to benefit from my ongoing training, learning and research into nutrition science.
  • Apply to work with me 1:1 in the 12-week NEW YOU Perimenopause Method
  • This is a telephone call that lasts for 40 minutes
  • During the consultation we will have a more detailed conversation about what you are hoping to achieve, and I can take the opportunity to explain how I work,  and we can decide if we are a good fit to work together.
  • If you want to go ahead at the end of the consultation, we can begin the process of processing your payment, setting you up with access to my online Portal and getting you started with some intake forms
